Planning is well under way for Vicary’s Field Community Garden in 2016, and we are looking for anyone who would like to get involved!
As part of an on-going development process, our Garden volunteers will continue to work on improving the Community Garden landscape in 2016, including the new forest garden area. A new path is already being constructed, and the seating areas will also be renewed and expanded. Later in the year, we are planning to build a BBQ to go alongside the existing pizza oven, so look forward to some outdoor parties when summer comes along!
As for the growing spaces, volunteers will be planting and nurturing a great variety of vegetables in the next few months, including peas, parsnips, beans, courgettes, and pumpkins! Why not help us out and have a go at some sowing or growing?
As part of an effort to bring the community together, the Garden team will also be hosting many different events this year, in addition to our regular meetings to make plans and work on the Garden landscape. Volunteers are planning for a film night and food sharing sessions in the near future, and there will be some outdoor events (such as skill sessions) at the Garden later in the year.
Betina Winkler, the Garden Coordinator, encouraged people in the community to get involved: “Vicary’s Field Community Garden is a special place in an amazing location. We work on permaculture principles and try to re-use and use local materials. We want to learn and share skills. Everyone in the community is very welcome to take part in sessions and events, or just enjoy the space.”
